Daniel Schmutter Dives Deep Into Justifiable Need

Words of Wisdom:

“If you think gun control is going to change the terrorists’ point of view, I think you’re, like, out of your mind,” – Kurt Russell

Interview with Daniel Schmutter

Daniel Schmutter was a speaker at the NJ SAFE Conference, and has conducted presentations for the NRA Firearms Law & Second Amendment Symposium and the Gun Rights Policy Conference.  He joins us to provide a seasoned attorney’s perspective on the recommendations made by the panel Gov. Christie commissioned.  The discussion delves into the legal issues surrounding the recommendations, as well as a comprehensive primer on the background and history of New Jersey’s “justifiable need” standard.  It is important to note the opinions expressed are stated within the existing paradigm of New Jersey’s statutes and aren’t comments on how rights ought to be exercised under the constitution. New Assault Weapons Ban Introduced in Congress – Bill H.R. 4269

More than 100 Congressional Democrats cosponsored a bill to ban assault weapons.  Reportedly the bill is the same as that offered by Sen. Diane Feinstein in 2013.  The bill bans firearms and “large capacity ammunition feeding devices” by name, by function and then specifically exempts certain firearms from the ban.  The text of the bill can be found here.
